This is a collection of food and camping picture from my time in Portugal (and one hideout from the rain). It took 7 days and 383 kilometers to get from Lisbon to Spain. The whole time we followed the beautiful coast through the little towns. Everyone was so friendly each town was clean and quaint. The population seemed entirely in their 50s which made the whole place feel very safe. In southern Portugal, as the population density increased, it became more difficult to find camping culminating in sleeping under a bridge. For those who knew it would come to that it took exactly 6 days. However it rained twice that night and was pretty nice to wake up to dry gear. Also it was a very nice bridge.
Others difficulties included finding food! Grocery stores were often closed during the day and restaurants were either always closed or just not serving when we arrived. One small town we stopped in had two restaurants but neither opened for dinner until 730 by which time it would have been dark and we needed to find camping. The standard breakfast so far has been one roll, one slice of cheese and one slice of ham. Not nearly the hardy breakfast I need for biking all day. By request we could get eggs but it was always confusing for them.
I caught the flu for about 5 days as well. Maybe I even brought it with me. Ibuprofen got me through it and we managed our first 50 mile day under its healing powers.
Regardless of any of the setbacks Portugal was great.
